‘Open When, Gift of Stories’: Words to Comfort, Inspire, and Connect in Dubai

Author Purva Grover turns heartfelt notes into a unique way to soothe, celebrate, and surprise

Sometimes, the right words can make all the difference. That’s the idea behind “Open When, Gift of Stories,” a new project by Dubai-based author Purva Grover, who has called the city home for 13 years.

Each Open When envelope is a small, handwritten token designed to comfort, spark joy, or simply arrive as a loving surprise. Whether you’re feeling anxious, celebrating a milestone, or just in need of reassurance, there’s an envelope waiting to remind you—you’re not alone.

Purva explains the inspiration behind the project: “We are all in the same group chat, the same emotional space, the same invisible thread that never really broke. In the same city. Saying the same prayers. Making the same promises to stay in touch.”

Inside each envelope are tiny, handmade notes, each personally written by Purva. The content is a secret until you open it—but you can expect moments of calm, inspiration, or delight. There are options for romance, friendship, inspiration, and milestones, and bespoke sets can even be created on request.

Purva, who has authored four books including her latest #icouldhavebeenaninstapost, continues to explore connection in her writing, capturing the intimate and universal emotions of life in Dubai. She also shares pieces online, such as reflections on friendship in the city: The Strange Charm of Dubai Friendships.

The envelopes are available exclusively in Dubai via Zbooni: AED 250 for a set of 10, or AED 125 for a set of 5, with delivery charges applied according to location. You can order here:

  • Set of 10

And for those who can’t purchase, the spirit of the project remains: words will always find their way to those who need them. Sometimes, all it takes is a few lines on paper to bring comfort, hope, and connection in a busy city like Dubai.
