The GMW-BZ5000RC-1 blends 40 years of shock-resistance data, Japanese craftsmanship and AI-assisted design in a reimagined version of the iconic square G-SHOCK.
G-SHOCK has unveiled a new evolution of its signature square watch design in the form of the GMW-BZ5000RC-1, a full-metal timepiece developed through a co-creative process between human engineers and artificial intelligence.
Launched in Dubai, the new model reinterprets the brand’s classic 5000 series with a rainbow ion-plated finish and an updated structural design informed by AI-assisted modelling and decades of durability data.
The watch draws direct inspiration from the original 1983 DW-5000C, the first-ever G-SHOCK model, which established the brand’s reputation for shock resistance and rugged engineering.
According to the brand, the design process incorporated more than 40 years of accumulated structural data to refine the full-metal construction while maintaining the shock-resistant foundation that defines G-SHOCK watches.
The result is a reworked interpretation of the square silhouette, with a visible metal centre case, gold ion-plated detailing and multi-layered finishes intended to create depth and shifting visual reflections under different lighting conditions.

Each watch features a rainbow ion-plated coating that is uniquely applied, meaning no two pieces have exactly the same finish.
Manufacturing takes place at Yamagata Casio in Japan, the production site historically associated with the earliest G-SHOCK models, reinforcing the brand’s emphasis on Japanese-made engineering and craftsmanship.
Beyond its design, the GMW-BZ5000RC-1 includes a range of technical features aimed at precision and usability, including Tough Solar charging, Bluetooth smartphone connectivity, Multi Band 6 radio-controlled timekeeping and a high-definition MIP LCD display for improved visibility in bright conditions.
The display includes multiple time-mode layouts and can be customised via the connected app, including a switch between modern and classic seven-segment font styles.
The model also reflects a growing industry trend of combining traditional watchmaking with digital tools and AI-assisted engineering, positioning it at the intersection of heritage design and emerging technology.
The launch also includes rainbow-themed packaging made from recycled materials, aligning with broader sustainability considerations in product presentation.
The GMW-BZ5000RC-1 is now available through select retailers and via G-SHOCK Middle East & Africa.
