Dubai’s sky, sea and desert become a giant playground for athletes

‘Beyond the Ordinary’ brings Emirati and international athletes together for a citywide sequence of wingsuit flying, paramotoring, e-foiling, motocross and freestyle football.

Dubai has turned itself into one giant sporting playground, with athletes taking to the sky, water, desert and city streets as part of a new destination project called ‘Beyond the Ordinary’.

Presented by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) in partnership with XDubai and Red Bull UAE, the project connects a series of high-energy performances across some of the city’s best-known landscapes and landmarks.

Rather than treating each stunt as a standalone performance, the production follows one continuous journey across Dubai, moving from the skyline to the coastline, into the desert and back into the heart of the city.

The journey begins above Palm Jumeirah, where Spanish Red Bull athlete Dani Román and Emirati XDubai athlete Ahmed Alshehhi take on a wingsuit sequence with views of Ain Dubai, Dubai Marina and the wider skyline.

Emirati athlete Captain Husam Gamal then takes to the skies for an aerobatic display over Palm Jumeirah, with Atlantis The Palm and Atlantis The Royal forming part of the backdrop.

From there, the action moves to the water. Greek Red Bull athlete and world paramotor champion Dimitris Kolliakos flies along the Palm and Dubai coastline, while Dan Van Dooren, co-founder of Surf House Dubai, takes on an e-foil sequence near Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab and Jumeirah Beach Hotel.

The landscape then changes completely.

In the Margham Desert, Emirati Red Bull athlete Mohammed Balooshi brings motocross and desert rallying into the sequence. Balooshi was the first Emirati rider to compete in the Dakar Rally and adds a distinctly local sporting connection to the production.

The final leg returns to the city, where French Red Bull athlete and freestyle football world champion Séan Garnier brings the action to One Za’abeel in a sequence featuring Dubai Police and Porsche.

Beyond the ordinary unites Emirati and global talent

The project also puts Emirati athletes alongside internationally recognised names, with Mohammed Balooshi, Captain Husam Gamal and Ahmed Alshehhi representing homegrown talent.

“Every landscape brings a different challenge and a different energy,” Balooshi said. “As an Emirati athlete, I am proud to compete alongside some of the best in the world and to show this side of Dubai to a global audience.”

Behind the spectacle is a sizeable network of tourism, sport and lifestyle partners. Alongside XDubai and Red Bull UAE, the project involved Atlantis The Palm, Atlantis The Royal, Dubai Police, Jumeirah, One Za’abeel, Platinum Heritage, Porsche Middle East and Africa, and Skydive Dubai.

For Dubai, the appeal is as much about the setting as the stunts themselves. Within a single production, the athletes move between a futuristic skyline, an urban coastline and vast desert terrain, showing just how dramatically the city’s landscape changes within a relatively short distance.

‘Beyond the Ordinary’ is being shared through Visit Dubai, partner and athlete channels, with international amplification planned as the city heads into the final quarter of 2026.
