Talks in Abu Dhabi covered the UAE’s economic diversification, AI, global expansion and Citi’s support for businesses across the region.
Abu Dhabi, UAE: Citi Chair and CEO Jane Fraser met with senior UAE leadership this week, including His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, to discuss the country’s economic outlook and opportunities emerging across its diversifying economy.
The discussions covered the global macroeconomic outlook for the region, the development of artificial intelligence and opportunities for UAE public and private sector institutions to expand into international markets with Citi’s support.
Fraser also held discussions with clients on cross-border growth strategies and access to Citi’s global network during her visit.
The bank said its UAE engagements also focused on its regional operations. Fraser met with Citi’s nearly 2,000 colleagues across the region and recognized their role in the bank’s Middle East and Africa strategy.
Citi has operated in the UAE since 1964, when it opened its first Dubai branch as the first American bank in the country. It later expanded its operations to Abu Dhabi.
In the first eight months of 2026, Citi raised more than $75 billion to support clients across the Middle East.
The bank was also named Best Investment Bank for M&A for the UAE and Middle East in 2025 by Euromoney.
