The World Triathlon Multisport Championships Abu Dhabi 2026 will bring more than 4,000 athletes from around the world to the capital this November, alongside racing, concerts, community events and a festival-style Championship Village.
Abu Dhabi is getting ready for a major sporting takeover this November, as more than 4,000 athletes descend on Hudayriyat Island for the World Triathlon Multisport Championships Abu Dhabi 2026.
Taking place from November 13 to 22, the championships will be the first edition of the event to be held in the Middle East and North Africa. More than 35 national federations have already confirmed their participation, including teams from Great Britain, the United States, Australia and Brazil.
The UAE will also field its biggest-ever multisport team, with more than 160 athletes already confirmed as qualification continues for Emirati athletes and UAE residents.
But the appeal of the event extends beyond the competition itself. Organised by World Triathlon and hosted by Modon on Hudayriyat Island, the championships are being designed as a 10-day destination experience, with sport, entertainment, music and family activities taking place across a single Championship Village.
Six ways to race
Athletes will compete for world titles across six disciplines: Duathlon, Cross Duathlon, Aquathlon, Long Distance Aquabike, Cross Triathlon and Long Distance Triathlon.
The race routes will take competitors through some of Hudayriyat’s most distinctive landscapes, from the turquoise waters surrounding the island and uninterrupted coastal roads to purpose-built cycling and running tracks, mountain bike trails and trail-running routes.
Some races will also cross the Hudayriyat Bridge, giving athletes views of Abu Dhabi’s coastline and skyline along the way.
The island’s compact layout is part of the appeal. Every race will start, transition and finish at 321 Sports, creating a connected Championship Village where athletes, supporters and spectators can move between the sporting action, recovery, dining and entertainment.
“The 2026 World Triathlon Multisport Championships will be one location, one global community, one unforgettable World Championship experience,” said Jamie Dean, Executive Director of Sports at Modon.
More than just racing
The championships will open with an expanded weekend that also brings the return of World Triathlon Championship Series Abu Dhabi, which will now take place alongside the Multisport Championships after its postponement earlier this year.
The programme will include elite racing, a mixed relay, age-group championships and community events for younger participants. Children aged 4 to 15 will also have the opportunity to take part in community races, bringing the event closer to local families.
The wider festival will feature community activities, entertainment and live concerts at Surf Abu Dhabi, while the soon-to-open Velodrome Abu Dhabi will serve as a centrepiece of the Championship Village.
For Antonio Arimany, President of World Triathlon, the combination of sporting infrastructure and leisure experiences makes Hudayriyat particularly suited to hosting the championships.
“Beyond the racing itself, athletes and visitors will enjoy everything Hudayriyat Island has to offer, from beaches, hospitality and dining to entertainment and outdoor experiences,” he said.
With official travel packages now available and qualification continuing worldwide, organisers expect to welcome athletes, teams and supporters from more than 45 countries.
For Abu Dhabi, it is another opportunity to show how the capital is combining major international sport with the kind of leisure, hospitality and outdoor experiences that make a global event feel like a destination in its own right.
And for Hudayriyat, 10 days of world-class racing could make this November one of its biggest moments yet.
